Arsenal player ratings: Cech plays pivotal role as handy Giroud breaks down Bayern Munich

Arsenal secured a crucial 2-0 win over Bayern Munich at the Emirates on Tuesday night to keep their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League alive.

Olivier Giroud made a significant impact off the bench to hand – literally – the Gunners the lead, before Mesut Ozil added a second in injury time to seal the victory.

However, Arsene Wenger will have Petr Cech to thank for the three points as the shot-stopper was sensational in the win. See how the veteran and his teammates scored in our player ratings below…

Petr Cech – 8/10

Made a string of stunning saves to keep Arsenal in the game, and his presence was huge to help them keep their chances alive.

Hector Bellerin – 7/10

Tested defensively by Douglas Costa, but his pace made him a real threat in attack and played well in both phases of the game before producing a brilliant late assist.

Per Mertesacker – 6/10

Looked slightly nervous early on when dealing with Robert Lewandowski, but kept the Polish striker out along with his teammates.

Laurent Koscielny – 6/10

Similar to Mertesacker, had to deal with the threat of Lewandowski as a group and successfully kept a clean sheet.

Nacho Monreal – 7/10

The Spaniard was steady as usual down the left flank and played his defensive role well to keep Arsenal tight at the back.

Francis Coquelin – 7/10

As ever, was a tenacious presence in the Arsenal midfield and put in a tireless performance to ensure that Bayern’s possession didn’t hurt the hosts.

Santi Cazorla – 7/10

Played a big part in ensuring the Gunners were a threat on the break by building play in midfield, and his delivery from set-pieces was impressive.

Mesut Ozil – 7/10

Worked hard for the team, and grabbed a late goal to seal the win and an important three points.

Alexis Sanchez – 6/10

Tireless effort from the Chilean international as usual, but perhaps lacked quality on the ball with his distribution even though he was dangerous on the break.

Aaron Ramsey – 6/10

The Welshman put in a solid shift as part of Arsenal’s overall defensive effort, but will be devastated that a hamstring injury ended his night early.

Theo Walcott – 6/10

Movement and pace ensured he was a real menace for the Bayern defence, but snatched at a couple of chances and should of headed home despite an incredible save from Manuel Neuer.

Substitutes

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6/10

Relieved that Ozil’s effort counted given his poor effort on the rebound, helped Arsenal hold on to the result and continue to be a threat on the counter.

Olivier Giroud – 8/10

His presence up front was an immediate problem for Bayern and aside from the goal, closed down the opposition and held the ball up well.

Kieran Gibbs – 6/10

Late substitute to add a bit more solidity down the left flank and did his job well.
