Ranking the 10 best Champions League kits this season: Arsenal highest English club, but are they number one?

This season’s Champions League group stage has highlighted a dazzling array of interesting kits already, mixing the elegant and the simplicity of Manchester City and Roma, to the outlandish and garish of Astanas.

But, which is the best one? Below we’ve put together a short gallery to give the rundown on our ten favourites so far…

10. CSKA Moscow

Manchester United’s group opponents have often got their kits so wrong, taking an outlandish over the top approach to their designs. However, this return to a more classic format has not gone unnoticed as they prove it’s hard to mess with a classic.

9. Manchester City

Much like CSKA, City have got rid of all the unnecessary whistles and bells of their previous efforts to strip back to this classy number.

8. Zenit St Petersburg

Up until now we’d never seen such a smart use of turquoise. Zenit are the second Russian entry, and could it be possible that former midfielder Andrei Arshavin is putting that fashion degree to good use?

7. Bayer Leverkusen

The German giants are currently sporting a kit that even Dennis the Menace would be proud to put on. Going against the grain of stripes, Leverkusen have instead opted for satisfyingly thick red and black hoops.

6. Arsenal

It’s hard to get Arsenal’s kit wrong. Puma learned their lesson from last season and stripped the current effort back slightly to produce a shirt that is most pleasing on the eye.

5. Borussia Monchengladbach

The Bundesliga side fought hard to get into the competition this year, but their captivating kit has done all the talking for them in regard to this list. It’s eye catching without being too loud – a truly wonderful effort.

4. Lyon

There’s something about Lyon’s kit this year that just works. It may not be understated, but the design is certainly pleasing on the eye.

3. PSV Eindhoven

A stunning use of red, white and black again from PSV as Umbro hit upon a formula that really stands out from the crowd.

2. Porto

It’s amazing what removing a sponsor will do to a shirt. The stripes may be a bit wider than we’re used to on a Porto shirt, but New Balance have announced themselves to the world of football kits in style with this gorgeous effort.

1. Roma

Roma’s shirt this year is class personified. Like Porto, they’ve rid themselves of any sponsors or unnecessary distractions to create a stunning shirt that is worthy of such a prestigious club.
