Premier League goals roundup: Kane’s back, Benteke head insufficient, Fletcher too hot for Toon

Eleven goals were scored across four games in the Premier League on Sunday.

Three of those goals were scored by Harry Kane, whose hat-trick helped Tottenham Hotspur win 5-1 at Bournemouth, despite falling behind to a Matt Ritchie thunderbolt inside the opening 60 seconds.

Mousa Dembele and Erik Lamela also hit the net for Spurs, but there were no goals in the Manchester Derby, which BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson described as “worse than Liverpool v Sion”… OUCH!

Talking of Liverpool… Jurgen Klopp came close to winning his first home league game. However, Southampton’s Sadio Mane, who was later sent off, scored a late winner to cancel out Christian Benteke’s 77th-minute bullet header.

The first game of the day was a huge one for football fans in the North-East, where Sunderland thrashed Newcastle 3-0 after Magpies skipper Fabricio Coloccini had been shown a straight red card. Adam Johnson, Billy Jones and Steven Fletcher were on target for the Black Cats.
