Five transfer hits and misses of the season so far: Arsenal and Man United stars are hot while Liverpool and Chelsea’s are not

With the influx of new TV rights money coming in at the end of the season, several Premier League sides embarked on hefty spending sprees in anticipation.

And whiles some of those players brought in over the summer have taken well to Premier League football, there are others that have struggled to adapt to the demands and rigours of the English game.

Listed below are 10 players, half of whom are already on their way to stardom in the English top flight, while the other half have so far failed to get off the ground.

Dimitri Payet – West Ham United

HIT

The Frenchman wasn’t a conventional household name before he linked up with The Hammers, but has so far been at the forefront of the club’s charge up the table thanks to his skill and pace on the wing. Notching five goals and three assists in the league hasn’t harmed his progress either!

Divock Origi – Liverpool

MISS

Though he was actually signed last summer, the Belgian youngster only linked up with his new teammates this season following a loan spell back at Lille. Injuries to Christian Benteke and Danny Ings have paved the way for him to get an extended run of games under his belt, but a lack of experience and match sharpness have seem him fail to live up to the hype.

Kevin de Bruyne – Manchester City

HIT

For £55m, City had been hoping that he would prove to be worth the outlay immediately, and he’s certainly proved that his struggles at Chelsea were an isolated incident. In five games he’s already managed three goals and three assists, and looks as though he will be a key player for the title contenders as the season progresses.

Memphis Depay – Manchester United

MISS

He may have enjoyed an explosive start, but his good grace is already beginning to fade as manager Louis van Gaal has recently hit out at his attitude. And the manager may have a point, as the winger hasn’t looked too interested on the pitch in recent weeks.

Anthony Martial – Manchester United

HIT

Eyebrows were raised when United spent the £36m striker budget on the teenager on transfer deadline day, but he has so far proved to be worth every penny. With seven goals in 12 games across all competitions, he is outshining star striker Wayne Rooney at every turn.

Roberto Firmino – Liverpool

MISS

Injuries have prevented the Brazilian international from showing the Anfield faithful what he can do since his summer arrival, but in truth he still looks as though he is finding his feet in the division and has yet to gain any real match sharpness.

Petr Cech – Arsenal

HIT

Cech may not have outperformed himself since arriving from Chelsea over the summer, but his absence is well and truly felt when he is not in the side.

Radamel Falcao – Chelsea

MISS

The Colombian struggled at United last term, and has continued his barren run of form into this season. With just one goal to his name so far, he looks as though his aspirations of getting back to his best in the Premier League could be over.

Andre Ayew – Swansea City

HIT

The Ghanaian had been steadily making a name for himself in the French top flight, and has so far managed to build on that and translate his form into the English game. With five goals in 10 games, he is going a long way to ensuring that Swans fans forget all about Wilfried Bony.

Xherdan Shaqiri – Stoke City

MISS

The Swiss international became Stoke’s record signing over the summer, but has looked miles away from justifying his price tag. Injury hasn’t helped, but watching him makes you realise why Bayern Munich and Inter Milan didn’t fight harder to keep him.
