Chelsea ratings from 3-1 defeat to Liverpool: Mourinho 3/10, Dirty Diego equally bad

Chelsea’s awful 2015-16 season got even worse this Halloween afternoon as the Blues lost 3-1 at home to Liverpool.

A sixth defeat in 11 Premier League games leaves Chelsea with almost no hope of retaining their title as champions of England.

To make things worse for the Stamford Bridge side, they threw away a 1-0 lead, having broke the deadlock in the fourth minute courtesy of a fine header from Ramires, before being struck down by Philippe Coutinho’s fine double and a well-taken third from Christian Benteke.

Liverpool player ratings vs Chelsea

Chelsea were awful. But how awful? Find out as we rate Jose Mourinho and his players based on their individual performances against Jurgen Klopp’s resurgent Reds…

Asmir Begovic – 7/10

Made four good saves and was blameless for Liverpool’s three goals. Chelsea would have lost even if Thibaut Courtois were fit.

Kurt Zouma – 6/10

Better than Branislav Ivanovic has been this season, but the young Frenchman is not fully comfortable at right-back

John Terry – 4/10

The former England captain appears to have lost his mojo. Not only did he look off the pace, he failed to rouse his teammates when they needed strong words from their on-field leader.

Gary Cahill – 6/10

Defected a low Benteke shot into the net, but that was down to bad luck more than poor play. Overall, Cahill did ok.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 7/10

Perhaps the only Chelsea player whose form hasn’t noticeably dipped since last season. He was again impressive at left-back, keeping things simple in defence, and setting up Ramires for the game’s opening goal with an excellent cross.

Replaced by Radamel Falcao (5/10) for the final 15 minutes as Mourinho went all-out attack, to no avail.

John Obi Mikel – 7/10

Selected ahead of Nemanja Matic. Sat deep and did a decent job as an anchor man, making seven tackles before making way for Cesc Fabregas (5/10), who came on for the final 20 minutes.

Ramires – 7/10

With Obi Mikel sitting, Ramires was afforded freedom to get forward. And he took full advantage early on by getting into the box to score the game’s opening goal.

Willian – 7/10

Won 10 free kicks during a tough physical battle.

Oscar – 4/10

Coasted through the 90 minutes, offering very little offensively.

Eden Hazard – 4/10

Hooked on 58 minutes after doing very little. Replaced by Kenedy (5/10), who was marginally more productive, but did have the advantage of running at tired legs.

Diego Costa – 3/10

Zero shots from Chelsea’s lone frontman, who should have been sent off for kicking Martin Skrtel in the chest.

Jose Mourinho – 3/10

Mourinho’s decision to take Hazard off gave Liverpool a huge phycological boost. The Special One’s treatment of his star man continues to baffle. His post-match quotes were disappointing too.
