Manchester City player ratings vs. Norwich: De Bruyne and Otamendi prove their worth in 2-1 win; Yaya Toure the saviour

This past summer, Manchester City spent around £120 million on three players: Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Otamendi and Kevin De Bruyne. But with the way those three are playing right now, £120 million may have been a bargain.

The stellar trio all contributed to the two goals Man City’s win and all had equally incredible performances that show what the club is capable of even when missing their two best players – Sergio Aguero and David Silva.

Here are the Manchester City player ratings from their 2-1 win over Norwich City.

GK Joe Hart – 4/10

That dropped ball that results in a Norwich goal was unforgivable. Hart would be in serious trouble in Man City hadn’t got away with the win.

DF Aleksandar Kolarov – 6.5/10

Good day for Kolarov with six corners, four cleared balls and a rare shot.

DF Nicolas Otamendi – 10/10

It’s nearly impossible to execute a header better than the one Otamendi pulled off in the second half. Add in six successful tackles and 10 clearances, and you have the formula for one of the best games of his career.

DF Vincent Kompany – 7/10

Kompany was very close to a goal on his lone shot. He also cleared the ball five times in ninety solid minutes.

DF Bacary Sagna – 6/10

Decent performance by Sagna who drew a foul and made a successful tackle.

MF Fernandinho – 7.5/10

Fernandinho handled the ball to perfection, passing it over 120 times as Man City dominated possession.

MF Yaya Toure – 8/10

His close miss in the first half was the only detractor from a great day in the middle of the field, controlling possession alongside Fernandinho. Toure’s converted penalty kick was a thing of beauty though.

MF Jesus Navas – 6/10

Not the best day for Navas. Got a corner off and had decent accuracy.

MF Kevin De Bruyne – 8/10

Had to take some points off for the fouls and penalty, but it’s hard to execute a corner kick as flawlessly as De Bruyne did. Think Jose Mourinho regrets giving up on him?

FW Kelechi Iheanacho – 5/10

Ineffective in the first half, it seems clear that Iheanacho is not the No. 2 forward Pellegrini was looking for. When Sterling replaced him less than ten minutes into the second half, the entire match changed.

FW Wilfried Bony – 7.5/10

Hard time properly grading Bony. On one hand he was nearly impossible to defend, on the other hand, he struggled to place his shots. But the ends justified the means and Bony could not be stopped.

Substitutes:

Raheem Sterling – 9/10

Sterling’s ball instincts were crucial in getting the game-winning goal. Had the Norwich defender not illegally put his hands up to block the shot, Sterling no doubt would have recorded a goal.

Fernando – 5/10

Not a great 20 minutes for Fernando who drew a yellow card and conceded a crucial foul that could have ended in disaster.

Martin Demichelis – 5/10

Late substitute, little contribution of note.
