Tottenham player ratings: Dele Alli shines as midfield impresses in win over Aston Villa

Tottenham secured a 3-1 win over Aston Villa on Monday night with Mousa Dembele, Dele Alli and Harry Kane grabbing the goals to seal the victory.

The hosts were dominant in the first half and took just two minutes to break the deadlock. It sent Villa towards another defeat in front of their new manager Remi Garde, as the Frenchman watched on from the stands at White Hart Lane.

Alli was amongst the star performers for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, see how he and his teammates fared in our player assessment below:

Hugo Lloris – 6/10

Quiet night for the Frenchman as Villa didn’t pose enough of a threat, while there was little he could do to stop Jordan Ayew’s deflected effort.

Kyle Walker – 6/10

Comfortable game as he did his defensive job well and got up in support when possible in an all-round solid display.

Toby Alderweireld – 6/10

Spurs had the joint-best defensive record in the Premier League so far this season, and the partnership between the two Belgians has been key to that.

Jan Vertonghen – 6/10

Did his job in the heart of the defence for the most part, but was unfortunate to guide Ayew’s effort into the back of the net while he and Alderweireld looked a bit shaky in Villa’s best period late on.

Danny Rose – 6/10

A willing runner down the left flank for the hosts although the distribution didn’t always match his endeavour before an injury forced him off.

Eric Dier – 7/10

Combative effort in midfield that helped Spurs gain control of the game early on although the visitors certainly made a game of it and that led to mistakes in the latter stages.

Delle Alli – 7/10

Impressive performance from the 19-year-old despite fading before being replaced, capped his display with a great goal that showed his awareness, technical skill and ability to finish.

Erik Lamela – 6/10

Looked like making something happen when on the ball, but finally made a telling impact with a clever assist for Harry Kane.

Mousa Dembele – 7/10

Although Ciaran Clark will be disappointed not to have stopped the Belgian, he showed incredible strength to hold off the Villa defender before cooly slotting home the opener.

Christian Eriksen – 6/10

The Danish international quietly went about his business on Monday night although he will have bigger influences in games moving forward.

Harry Kane – 6/10

Wasn’t always a threat, but kept going until the end and was rewarded by bagging his fifth goal of the season with a great finish to kill the game.

Substitutes

Ryan Mason – 5/10

Didn’t have much time to catch up with the speed of the game and have an influence on proceedings.

Ben Davies – 5/10

A late replacement for the injured Rose, stepped in and did his part in protecting the lead.

Joshua Onomah – 5/10

Limited minutes, but showed his confidence with a strong run and effort to test Brad Guzan in added time.
