Angel Di Maria stars for PSG v. Real Madrid, but FATAL Kevin Trapp error hands Merengues triumph

Paris Saint-Germain may have been defeated by Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, but the reigning French champions still gave a fine account of their European credentials, with Angel Di Maria starring and Kevin Trapp enduring a tough evening.

PSG are desperate to break into the upper echelon of the continent’s sides, and a Champions League double header against the Merengues—arguably the world’s most famous side—provided the French heavyweights with a perfect opportunity to show that they belonged among the continent’s elite.

After the first leg was drawn 0-0 at the Parc des Princes, PSG sought to return to the Spanish capital and prove that they could match their illustrious hosts.

That they did, largely playing the Blancos off the park and enjoying the better of the chances. Indeed, had Edinson Cavani buried one of a handful of fine chances, it might have been a different story.

Real secured a 1-0 triumph, however, when defender Nacho scored following a gross error from PSG’s new stopper Kevin Trapp.

Despite their loss, PSG should qualify comfortably from the group stage, and will take encouragement from the fact that they ran Real close.

This moment of audacious skill from former Bernabeu darling Angel Di Maria—which left poor Isco flummoxed—just shoes what the French side are capable of when all of their stars are on song, while the former Manchester United flop could have also secured a point late on when a free kick cannoned back off the woodwork.
