This has quickly turned into a must win game for manager Jose Mourinho, who has seen his position come increasingly into question over recent weeks.
Saturday’s defeat to Liverpool was believed to be the straw that would break Roman Abramovich’s back by fans and pundits alike, but Mourinho is still in charge and remains adamant that he will not leave Stamford Bridge.
The last time out the game ended as a drab 0-0 draw, suggesting that Kiev know what it will take to stifle the Premier League champions.
Because of their circumstances, it’s likely that they will feature a full strength side.
GK: Asmir Begovic
Unlikely to be dislodged by Marco Amelia.
RB: Kurt Zouma
Not ideal for the right-back spot, but as it stands is displaying more form than Ivanovic.
CBs: John Terry & Gary Cahill
Flailing slightly, they’ll know they’re capable of performing better than they have been.
LB: Cesar Azpilicueta
At this point it seems unlikely that ‘Dave’ will ever get an extended run in his natural right-back slow.
CMs: Nemanja Matic & Cesc Fabregas
Matic has been regaining some semblance of his old form, but this will be a big chance for Fabregas to whip up some much needed confidence.
RW: Willian
His teammates may not be firing on all cylinders, but the Brazilian international has been unaffected by what’s going on around him. He can’t do it all on his own, though.
LW: Eden Hazard
Like Fabregas, this will be a huge opportunity for Hazard to recapture his form and confidence.
AM: Oscar
Oscar will be tasked with unlocking a potentially tough Kiev defence.
ST: Loic Remy
With injury problems effecting both Diego Costa and Radamel Falcao, the Frenchman will see this as a golden opportunity to prove his worth to Jose Mourinho.
