Recent injuries and poor performances by Arsenal‘s group of forwards have the team understandably nervous. With plenty of cash saved up from their thrifty 2015, the Gunners are in a good position to make a move for Napoli scoring machine Gonzalo Higuain – and the interest appears to be mutual.
According to The Telegraph, Higuain is ready to leave Napoli in exchange for a move to London – specifically Arsenal – next summer. Such a move would not come cheap for Arsenal, as the Telegraph noted that there is a fairly expensive release clause in Higuain’s contract, costing approximately £67.7 million.
The final transfer number would likely be just a few million pounds short of the combined sums Arsenal paid for both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez – the two most expensive transfers in club history.
Higuain has double-digit goals in each of his last seven seasons, and recently improved his streak to eight in a row with a goal against Palermo in late-October.
The Argentinian star won three La Liga titles with Real Madrid from 2006 to 2013, and tied a career-high with 29 total goals for Napoli last season.
