Tottenham ratings from 2-1 win over Anderlecht: Goalscorers 8/10 but Alli disappoints for first time

Mousa Dembele scored an outstanding late winner for Tottenham Hotspur to clinch them a vital 2-1 win over Anderlecht this evening, which takes them to the top of Europa League Group J.

Spurs took the lead through Harry Kane’s emphatic first-half finish at White Hart Lane, but the Belgians responded strongly and Imoh Ezekiel broke the offside track to equalise on 72 minutes.

Mauricio Pochettino immediately brought Dembele off the bench, and the midfielder sent an unstoppable right-footed shot into the top corner three minutes from time to snatch Tottenham victory.

Here, CaughtOffside rates how the home players performed under the floodlights in North London…

GK: Hugo Lloris – 6/10

Despite Anderlecht appearing dangerous going forward for much of the game, Tottenham’s captain was rarely stretched after an early fingertip save from Steven Defour. No chance with the goal.

RB: Kieran Trippier – 7/10

As good as he has been for Spurs in an attacking sense, aside from one horrifically skewed shot. Tested defensively by the rapid Frank Acheampong, but stood firm for the most part.

CB: Toby Alderweireld – 6/10

Spent much of the game involved in another physical tussle with Stefano Okaka, but his key intervention came when he made a last-ditch sliding challenge to thwart Ezekiel in the final 10 minutes.

CB: Jan Vertonghen – 7/10

Was having an excellent game until he strangely allowed an Anderlecht cross to go over his head. Ezekiel applied the finish for the Belgians as Tottenham threw away another European lead.

LB: Ben Davies – 7/10

So unlucky not to score his first Tottenham goal when his volley thundered back off the crossbar. Most of the Anderlecht threat came from their left flank, but Davies still needed to be aware.

CM: Eric Dier – 7/10

The newest call-up to the England squad continued his consistent season with another solid game, although he could have done more to help protect Trippier from the oft-used Acheampong outlet.

CM: Ryan Mason – 6/10

The midfielder made his first start in two months and got a valuable 70 minutes under his belt. Was involved in the goal, but did most of his best work in his own half, including one superb block.

AMC: Dele Alli – 5/10

Probably the first bad game that the 19-year-old has had since his arrival at Spurs. Seemed to be a little leggy and wasted the ball in a couple of promising attacking positions before his withdrawal.

AMR: Erik Lamela – 7/10

The Argentine showed some delightful skill as he linked up with his teammates, although many of his best touches came too deep and he was not as effective around the edge of the box as he faded late on.

AML: Christian Eriksen – 6/10

The Dane smartly slipped Kane through from the pocket for Tottenham’s first goal, but could not get into the same positions often enough before he was hooked, likely with Arsenal this week in mind.

ST: Harry Kane – 8/10

The England striker now has five goals in his last three games, and his emphatic finish tonight is a surefire sign that his confidence is back. He did not even need to look up at goal before shooting.

Substitutes:

Son Heung-Min – 6/10

Teed Dembele up for the superb winner. Got 35 minutes in total on his first appearance for six weeks and will now hope to feature in Sunday’s North London derby.

Mousa Dembele – 8/10

Produced an unstoppable winning goal, a right-footed swinger which flew into the top corner. Three in three – is the silky Belgian finally adding goals to his game?

Joshua Onamah – 6/10

Good work to keep the ball alive in the build-up to Demeble’s stunner. This result should mean that the 18-year-old prospect gets more minutes in Europe going forward.
