Arsenal Player Ratings vs. Tottenham: Take a bow Mesut Ozil; time for Per Mertesacker to be DROPPED?

While it was the Arsenal players who were celebrating at the end of the London derby on Sunday, it was Tottenham Hotspur who were the better side at the Emirates Stadium as Mauricio Pochettino’s side exposed the Gunners’ failings.

Indeed, there’s no doubt that Arsenal need to improve and are far from being the title contenders that some may have imagined.

Petr Cech – 6.5/10

Comfortably beaten by Kane in a one-on-one situation, and was nearly guilty of a horrible blunder, but contributed a few fine stops.

Mathieu Debuchy – 5.5/10

Was not the liability he has been recently, but could have done more going forward.

Laurent Koscielny- 4.5/10

Not the commanding presence some might have hoped and he was at fault for Spurs’ goal.

Per Mertesacker – 4/10

Continues to struggle when faced with speedy forwards, and his positioning and anticipation-both saving graces-look to be failing him.

Ignacio Monreal – 6.5/10

The best Arsenal defender, inventive going forward and forceful in the tackle.

Francis Coquelin – 6/10

A few key interventions, but largely negotiated by Spurs and failed to truly stamp his authority on the game. Improved with Flamini alongside him.

Santi Cazorla – 4/10

Looked off the pace and contributed several complacent passes. Hauled off at the break.

Joel Campbell – 5.5/10

A few lively moments, but managed by Danny Rose. Yet to prove that he is Arsenal class.

Mesut Ozil – 7.5/10

Decisive contribution for Arsenal with the assist, and there were the typical array of nice touches, but a little more zest would be appreciated.

Alexis Sanchez- 6/10

Something of a faded force, failed to have much of an impact.

Olivier Giroud – 5.5/10

Spent the entire contest look for a fight with Jan Vertonghen, and as such, appeared to take his eye off the job at hand.

Substitutes

Kieran Gibbs – 7/10

Replaced Campbell and scored with his first touch, even if Lloris could (and should) have done better. Could have been the match-winner soon after.

Mikel Arteta- 5/10

Mathieu Flamini – 6.5/10
