Arsenal player ratings: Shocking Arteta slated in 2-1 defeat to West Brom

It’s not been the greatest of afternoons for Arsenal. Having watched Manchester United clinch all three points in the dying seconds of their clash with Watford earlier this afternoon, they have now had to watch Leicester City climb above them to the summit of the Premier League table.

Arsene Wenger’s men had their chance to keep up the pace, but thanks to a series of unfortunate events they were left to rue some missed chances.

Petr Cech – 6/10

Got mugged off by Arteta for the own goal, and could do little about the other. Not his finest afternoon.

Hector Bellerin – 5/10

Didn’t look to be anywhere near his best. Could have done with another week out.

Per Mertesacker – 6/10

Had his hands full with Rondon, but stood up to the challenge well for the most part.

Laurent Koscelny – 6/10

Played well given that he was a doubt before the kick off.

Nacho Monreal – 5/10

Started brightly but faded quickly.

Francis Coquelin – 5/10

Forced off through injury in the first half. Will be a huge worry going forward.

Santi Cazorla – 5/10

Looked dangerous at times, but will only be remembered for his scuffed penalty.

Alexis Sanchez – 6/10

Won his share of corners and free kicks. Looked good but lacked that extra spark to make a meaningful contribution.

Mesut Ozil – 7/10

Created the goal a made a nuisance of himself all afternoon. Was unlucky to be on the losing side.

Kieran Gibbs – 6/10

Deployed further forward than usual. Did well but clearly lacked that bit of quality in the final third.

Olivier Giroud – 6/10

Did well to score but remained choked out for the rest of the game.

Subs:
Mikel Arteta: 2/10 – A comical performance from the captain. Not a day he’ll want to remember.
Mathieu Flamini: 6/10 – Not vintage by any stretch, but far better than Arteta.
Joel Campbell: 4/10 – Missed an absolute sitter not long after coming on.
