Five youngest players to score 50 Premier League goals: Man United & Liverpool legends add Romelu Lukaku to their ranks

During a 4-0 annihilation of Aston Villa on Saturday, Everton striker Romelu Lukaku scored his 50th and 51st goals since moving to the Premier League.

Besides being an impressive milestone for any player, it was especially unique because Lukaku is still just 22-years-old – making him one of only five players in Premier League history to achieve the feat before age 23.

Who are these rare youngsters to score fifty times while they were still too young to graduate college? Not forgotten stars, but some of the greatest scorers in Premier League history.

Here are the five youngest players to score fifty goals in the Premier League:

5. Cristiano Ronaldo – 22 years, 11 months

One of the few scoring-related lists where Ronaldo doesn’t take first place, the former Manchester United superstar achieved the feat while scoring a hat-trick against Newcastle in January 2008. Just over a year later he would transfer to Real Madrid and has since become the club’s all-time leading scorer.

4. Romelu Lukaku – 22 years, six months

Several months younger than Ronaldo was when he got his 50th goal, Lukaku has recorded double-digit goals in each of his last three seasons between West Bromwich Albion and Everton.

3. Wayne Rooney – 21 years, one month and 15 days

With 15 goals at Everton prior to his famous move to Man United, Rooney had a slight edge over Ronaldo even though he joined a year after the Portuguese star.

Today, Rooney is in hot pursuit of both his sixth Premier League title and Sir Bobby Charlton’s scoring record with the Red Devils.

2. Michael Owen – 20 years, eight months and twelve days

It took 98 appearances for Owen to claim his 50th with Liverpool, but the former Ballon d’Or winner and two-time Golden Boot winner achieved the feat at the start of one of the greatest seasons in Liverpool history.

The Liverpool legend is now a football commentator.

Owen achieved the mark when he was just four days older than the number one player on the list…

1. Robbie Fowler – 20 years, eight months and eight days

Though Fowler’s 88 games may not the fastest ever to achieve 50 goals, he was the youngest to do so, and was a key part of Liverpool’s incredible 2000-01 season several years later.

The Liverpool great was also the first to accomplish the impressive feat, having made his Premier League debut in just the second year of the English competition.

Now retired, Fowler has been trying his hand at football managing and media work.
