Manchester United Berahino: 5 players they should sign instead, with two Tottenham heroes available

With Saido Berahino toiling on the West Bromwich Albion bench, he has emerged as a transfer target for Manchester United and a variety of other clubs for a January transfer. Last season he played all 38 Premier League games and scored 14 goals – good for a top ten finish.

Since the start of the 2015-16 season though, it’s become obvious that Berahino is not getting along well with his club. After being denied a transfer during the summer, Berahino vowed never to play for Tony Pulis again before swallowing his pride and returning to the team. However, this past week he was a healthy benching in the team’s 2-1 upset win over Arsenal.

While Berahino is certainly a solid option for Man United, the Red Devils can certainly do a little bit better.

Here are the five players Man United should sign instead of Saido Berahino:

Alexandre Lacazette

The best player in Ligue 1 last year, Lacazette led Lyon to a second-place finish last season en route to Player of the Year honors and the Ligue 1 Golden Boot.

At just 24 years old, he has plenty of years of sensational football still in him and already has experience playing with Anthony Martial on the French national team.

Neymar

Berahino is good, but Neymar has quickly turned into sheer greatness personified. The 23-year-old Neymar, who is five years younger than both Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi yet is already just as skilled with the ball as his megastar teammates.

While Neymar’s transfer would definitely require the Red Devils to shatter the transfer record, but they would have at least five to ten years of production from Neymar and Anthony Martial in their respective athletic primes.

Harry Kane

Though Kane has not set the Premier League on fire like he did last season, he is still a top ten goalscorer and a young leader for Tottenham Hotspur.

At just 22 years old, Kane is still very young and would create a dominating force with Anthony Martial for at least six years before either even enter their primes.

Zlatan

PSG’s scoring superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovich has been rumoured to be linked with a move to Major League Soccer to finish his career, and if that’s the case there’s really nothing Man United or any other club can do about it.

However, if the the 34-year-old Zlatan still wants to get paid big bucks and win titles, then he can come to Man United and provide a much-needed veteran presence to the young team – and probably at a reasonable fee.

Gareth Bale

Bale is quickly emerging as the man Real Madrid intend to build around. For the right price though, Manchester United might be able to convince the La Liga giants to part ways with the former Tottenham star and bring him into the fold for just slightly more than the transfer record Real Madrid paid for him in the first place.
