Ranking Arsenal’s 10 highest goal scorers in the Champions League: Giroud hat trick launches him into the list

Arsenal made relatively light work of their crucial Champions League tie with Greek giants Olympiacos during the week, and secured their passage into the next round with aplomb.

Olivier Giroud was undoubtedly the man of the moment, bagging himself a stunning hat trick to launch himself into the top ten goal scorers of Arsenal’s Champions League history.

And with that in mind, we thought a closer look at who the other stars comprising the list are.

See below to find out who they are…

10. Lukas Podolski

Champions League goals: 8

The German international couldn’t get a look in domestically towards the end, but was virtually faultless in Europe, chalking up an impressive eight goals in 16 appearances.

9. Aaron Ramsey

Champions League goals: 8

The Welshman has done well to chalk up so many strikes by the age of 24, and he would surely have many, many more had injuries not hampered his progress.

8. Nicklas Bendtner

Champions League goals: 8

He may have been a figure of ridicule during his time in North London, but there’s no denying that his record in Europe for the club has to be respected.

7. Olivier Giroud

Champions League goals: 10

The Frenchman was already building up a solid record anyway, but his hat trick against the Greek side has seen him jump up to double figures.

6. Robert Pires

Champions League goals: 11

An integral part of Arsenal’s path to the final back in 2006, but contributed overall with 11 goals in 85 appearances.

5. Theo Walcott

Champions League goals: 11

Another player, like Ramsey, that would almost certainly have more to his name had it not been for a series of debilitating injuries.

4. Cesc Fabregas

Champions League goals: 12

A nailed on performer in Europe and the Spaniard chipped in with 12 goals during his time with The Gunners.

3. Freddie Ljungberg

Champions League goals: 13

A player that often gets overlooked in ‘Best x Arsenal player’ lists, but he highlighted his importance to the side by chipping in with an impressive 13 strikes in European competition.

2. Robin van Persie

Champions League goals: 18

Despite his 18 goals in Europe with Arsenal, he never managed to lift the trophy.

1. Thierry Henry

Champions League goals: 35

Who else was it going to be? He has 50 Champions League goals overall, but 35 of them came under Arsene Wenger and it will likely be a very long time until anyone catches up with him.
