Boost for Arsenal as Barcelona turn transfer attention elsewhere

Arsenal have received an unlikely boost in their hopes of bringing Nolito to the Emirates Stadium in January.

The Celta Vigo forward has been in excellent form in La Liga so far this season, scoring eight and contributing five assists in 15 outings to date.

His outings have led to him being linked to both Barcelona and Arsenal however, according to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan giants are said to be cooling on Nolito.

The report states that at €18 million, the Spaniard would be too pricey, particularly when there are cheaper options available, notably Red Bull Salzburg’s Jonathan Soriano, who has been linked with a move to the Nou Camp [Mundo Deportivo].

The favourite to provide backup to Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar looks like being former Manchester City attacker Denis Suarez, according to the Spanish report, who is currently starring for Villarreal and who has already impressed for Sevilla and Barcelona’s B Team.

Barca’s decision to move away from Nolito could be a boost for Arsenal, who have been linked for a £12.6 million (€17.2 million) approach for the forward [Bleacher Report], despite insistence on the part of Spanish football expert Guillem Balague—as per the Daily Star—that the Gunners won’t stretch to meet Celta’s asking price.
