Wayne Rooney passes Man United legend on all-time scoring list in win

Wayne Rooney did more than score the game-winning goal in Manchester United‘s win over Swansea City on Saturday, in doing so he also set an incredible scoring milestone by passing Newcastle United and Man United legend Andy Cole on the all-time Premier League scoring list.

Per Squawka, with his goal against Swansea Rooney notched his 188th Premier League goal – pushing him ahead of Cole for sole-possession of second-place on the all-time scoring list. First place is still occupied by three-time Golden Boot winner Alan Shearer, who is well-ahead of Rooney with 260 Premier League goals.

The winning goal came in the final 15 minutes against Swansea thanks to an assist by Anthony Martial. The goal broke a 1-1 tie to give the Red Devils their first win in nine matches from all competitions.

Though Cole has a career scoring mark of 230 goals officially, only 187 of them came in the Premier League. He won the Premier League Golden Boot in the 1993-94 season with Newcastle, later transferring to Man United a few years later.
