Rafa Benitez has been fired as manager of Real Madrid after just seven months on the job. While his third-place position in La Liga and 4-0 loss to Barcelona were certainly nothing to write home about, there did not appear to be a ton of justification for ending the project so early. Unless of course, Benitez lost the confidence of the team – and that might have been exactly what happened.
A recent video from Real Madrid’s 2-2 draw against Valencia showed several moments in which the players seemed to stop listening to Benitez, even after Paco Alcacer scored the equalizer at the 83′ mark.
The full video [from Videos Football] indicates that on several occasions the Real Madrid players simply stopped listening to Benitez, but in the final moments, the now-former Real Madrid manager tried to talk to Danilo, but was rebuffed and simply ignored. A devastating moment for any manager or coach at any level of sports.
Zinedine Zidane was named the new manager of Real Madrid shortly after Benitez was axed.
