Aston Villa offered chance to sign Man United’s five-time Premier League winner on free transfer

Aston Villa have reportedly been offered the chance to sign former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old is without a club having left Italian giants Inter Milan after terminating his contract by mutual consent on Monday.

According to the Daily Mail, Vidic’s leadership qualities are an attractive attribute to Remi Garde with his side battling relegation.

The Serbian warrior won four Premier League titles during his eight years as Old Trafford, lifting the last of them as captain in 2012-13.

He has interest from America, but Vidic would apparently rather return to the Premier League and he has been touted to the struggling Villans.

The Midlands outfit, ever-presents since the Premier League’s inception in 1992, are bottom of the table and 10 points from safety.

One concern for Villa is that Vidic is unlikely to be match fit immediately – his last competitive game was against Juventus in May 2015.

But Garde is having trouble recruiting a defender and may gamble on Vidic, because Villa are as good as down if they don’t improve at the back.
