Manchester City player ratings vs West Ham United: Aguero heroic as defenders struggle early

Posted by

Although Manchester City were able to avoid losing their second straight match to West Ham United, the one point they gained from the effort was a small consolation for the second-place Citizens.

A huge game for Sergio Aguero – arguably his best since a five-goal performance back in October – was simply not good enough for Manchester City to beat the Hammers. From the starting whistle West Ham challenged Man City and scored a goal just 55 seconds in – never losing the lead once in the game.

Aguero scored two goals – his first multi-goal game in months – which allowed the Citizens to equalize both times. Unfortunately, the were unable to get the full three points and are now in a three-point hole behind No. 1 Leicester City.

There is still plenty of work for the Citizens to do if they want to win the Premier League title this year.

Here are the Manchester City player ratings vs West Ham United:

GK Joe Hart – 7/10

Hart has just two clean sheets on the road since October. He made an epic save though:

DF Bacary Sagna – 5/10

Not exactly Sagna’s best outing in recent memory.

DF Nicolas Otamendi – 7/10

Otamendi was no slouch with 9 cleared balls and a game-leading five tackles. He was also the team’s No. 3 passer.

DF Demichelis – 6/10

Though he led the team with an astounding 12 cleared balls, Demichelis was out of position on the second West Ham goal.

DF Clichy – 6/10

Rough day for the freshly-healed Clichy.

MF Yaya Toure – 6/10

The team’s leading passer, Toure was a little overaggressive at times

MF Fabian Delph – 4/10

Delph reverted to his usual invisible form, but still managed to draw a bunch of fouls.

MF Jesus Navas – 4.5/10

After conceding three fouls and struggling to make his presence felt, Navas was mercifully removed.

MF Kevin De Bruyne – 7/10

Lots of fouls for De Bruyne, who was unable to fool West Ham with his usual fancy footwork.

MF David Silva – 6.5/10

Man City fans are still waiting for the pre-injury David Silva to return.

FW Sergio Aguero – 9/10

Aguero took everything that West Ham gave him, notching his first multi-goal game since his five-goal performance in October against Newcastle United.

Substitutes:

Raheem Sterling – 6/10

The number of goals Raheem Sterling has been a part of since introducing his new hairdo is still zero…

Iheanacho – 7/10

One has to wonder if starting Iheanacho over Delph earlier would have led to a better outcome – just a few minutes after the hapless Delph was replaced they equalized.

Fernando – 5/10

Late sub for Silva after Aguero’s second goal, no impact.
