Leicester signing of Liverpool target will pave the way for Arsenal transfer swoop

Daniel Amartey‘s switch to Leicester City has paved the way for Arsenal to swoop in to sign the Foxes midfielder N’Golo Kante, Caught Offside‘s sources understand.

The Gunners have already signed Egypt international Mohamed Elneny during the January transfer window, but more is expected from Arsene Wenger as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of a title tilt over the coming months.

Indeed, while Elneny will restore some authority to the midfield, further reinforcements are required, with Mathieu Flamini, Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta all the wrong side of 30 and Francis Coquelin yet to return to action following a knee injury.

The Gunners have been linked to Kante in recent months, with the Franco-Malian midfielder proving to be a revelation in the Premier League since signing from Stade Malherbe Caen during the summer.

However, while some Leicester fans may be excited to see Kante in tandem with powerful new addition Amartey in the heart of the park, the likelihood is that the former Liverpool transfer target, who moved from FC Kobenhavn on Friday, has come to replace the Francophone powerhouse.

Indeed, Caught Offside are informed that Arsenal have been waiting for Amartey’s deal to be confirmed before moving for Kante, but that the Gunners will make a formal approach for the player at the beginning of next week.
