We’ve seen some incredible goals this season, but very few free kick goals that were truly worth mentioning. That may have just changed after Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson bagged what may be the best free kick goal of the season today against Crystal Palace.
Palace’s prized January pickup Emmanuel Adebayor committed the foul on Sigurdsson at the 12′ mark, setting up the free kick for the Iceland star. Then, with some of the best touch on a free kick we’ve seen all season – even from some of the best strikers in football – he ripped the ball towards the right post, slipping it past Wayne Hennessey to take the 1-0 lead.
The goal for Sigurdsson was his seventh of the season – tying his personal high in the Premier League.
The Swans had a brief relegation scare in the first half of the season after losing five of seven games from October through December, claiming just two points in the process. Since the start of 2016, however, the club has performed much better and are unbeaten in their last three games.
