Jose Mourinho might as well start investing in some property near Old Trafford, because after Manchester United’s performance against Sunderland he may find himself in a brand new home sooner than expected. Under current manager Louis van Gaal, Manchester United have now endured their worst start through 26 games (the two-thirds mark) since the formation of the Premier League.
To date, Man United have claimed just 41 points in 26 games – setting a new low mark for since the ill-fated 2013-14 season [per the Metro], when they claimed just 45 points. In addition, the 2-1 loss to Sunderland also put the club in danger of dropping from fifth place to sixth place should West Ham United get a win over Norwich City.
The poor start to the 2013-14 season ultimately led to the firing of manager David Moyes in that ill-fated season which resulted in a mere seventh place finish – their worst in Premier League history and lowest since the 1989-90 season.
Without a doubt, Louis van Gaal should not be considered safe no matter how much confidence the Glazer family and Ed Woodward express in the Dutch manager – especially with a hungry and eager Jose Mourinho ready to accept the biggest job in English football.
