£34.5m Brazilian tax debt costs Neymar a yacht, jet, property and several businesses

Neymar has been making the most of his incredible wages at Barcelona: he’s buying properties, luxury vehicles, jewelry and designer clothes among others. Unfortunately, the one expense he apparently hasn’t been making is his Brazilian taxes.

According to Goal.com, the federal court of Sao Paulo, Brazil has frozen assets belonging to Neymar as a result of an ongoing investigation into tax evasion. Per the source, the Brazilian authorities have blocked his access to £34.5 million ($50m) worth of assets: a yacht, a jet, properties and three companies belonging to his family.

The 24-year-old Brazilian was the subject of significant controversy a while back when Barcelona initially refused to reveal how much they paid his former club Santos for his transfer.

Neymar has denied any wrongdoing in the cases relating to charges accrued from 2011 to 2013. Ironically, he isn’t even the only player on his team under accusation of tax evasion. Lionel Messi is also facing an indictment in Spain for tax fraud.
