Arsenal superstar admits disputes with Wenger over playing time

The competitive fire burns deeply within Arsenal and Chile striker Alexis Sanchez, who has endured an uncommon stretch of struggles this season due in part to injuries. Although Sanchez quickly became Arsenal’s most lethal scoring presence upon joining the club in 2014, his recent spells on the sidelines have apparently caused a rift between him and manager Arsene Wenger.

In a recent interview [per the Metro], the former Udinese and Barcelona man admitted to arguing often with Wenger over playing time, stating that he is always looking to play as much as possible and prefers not to rest when the Arsenal manager insists.

‘I do always want to play so that’s right,’ Sanchez said.

‘It’s because football is my passion, it’s my life.

‘Sometimes the manager says to me that I should have a rest but I say “I do not want to rest.”

‘I’d rather go home and use the gym in my house to exercise in order to maintain my form.

Last season Sanchez finished the year with 16 Premier League goals and 25 total goals. This campaign, however, he has just seven BPL goals and 12 total goals.

Arsenal’s second-leading scorer both in the Premier League and in all competitions, Sanchez trails only starting forward Olivier Girioud for the spot he occupied last season.
