Cool stats! Riyad Mahrez officially the best scoring midfielder in Top-5 leagues

It should be safe to say that everybody is going to want a piece of Riyad Mahrez before the end of 2016 (here’s looking at you Man City!) after the way he has performed in the 2015-16 for Premier League leaders Leicester City. Not only has Mahrez emerged as one of the best assist wizards in English football, he has also made an impact as a solo goal scorer as well – and a pretty darn good one.

According to Squawka stats, Mahrez’s 16 goals as a midfielder this season are the most by anyone at his position in any of the top-five European Leagues. He ties Man City scoring machine Sergio Aguero for fourth in Premier League goals, trailing only Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane, Leicester teammate Jamie Vardy – both of whom have 19 – and Everton striker Romelu Lukaku with 18.

Leicester acquired Mahrez from Ligue 2 outfit Le Havre back in the January 2014 transfer window for next to nothing. His goal total this year has even surpassed his previous high of 13 when he played for Le Havre II in the fourth division of French football.
