Video: Alex Iwobi marks first Premier League start for Arsenal with smart finish at Everton

Arsenal starlet Alex Iwobi scored on his first start in the Premier League on Saturday, doubling the Gunners’ lead at Everton.

Danny Welbeck had given the visitors an earlier lead, finishing off a brilliant team move that carved the Everton backline open for the England international to bag his third goal in just five Premier League appearances this season.

Having shown discipline and defensive solidity to frustrate the home side and deny them any clear goalscoring opportunities, Arsenal hit their opponents on the counter attack just before half-time with Iwobi breaking free and bearing down on goal.

The 19-year-old kept his cool and slotted the ball between Joel Robles’ legs to double Arsenal’s advantage with Arsene Wenger visibly delighted with the performance from his players in the opening 45 minutes.

With the pressure building on the French tactician and his players after a week in which they were eliminated from the Champions League and FA Cup, a win at Goodison Park would come as a welcome boost with the Premier League title their only possible chance of winning silverware this season.

The north London giants were 11 points adrift of leaders Leicester City prior to kick off, but with a game in hand too, they will hope to continue to apply pressure on Claudio Ranieri’s men up until the final game of the campaign.
