Manchester United claimed a 1-0 win over Manchester City in the derby on Sunday, with Marcus Rashford scoring the winning goal.
The pressure was on for both sides ahead of the encounter, with City looking to strengthen their position to land a Champions League qualification spot, while United were hoping to cut the gap.
Ahead of kick off, the Red Devils trailed their fourth-placed city rivals by four points, but the victory moves Louis van Gaal’s side firmly back into contention with eight games remaining in the campaign.
The Dutchman will have Rashford to thank for the three points, as the 18-year-old produced a sublime bit of individual play to escape the challenge of Martin Demichelis.
However, equally as impressive was his ability to stay composed and produce a clinical finish to break the deadlock and stun the Etihad after just 16 minutes.
The teenager has now scored three goals in four Premier League appearances after being handed an opportunity to impress by Van Gaal, and the United boss will be delighted with the return that he has received from the highly-talented youngster.
Having faced significant criticism throughout the season thus far, Van Gaal will undoubtedly be eyeing a strong finish to the campaign. In turn, he will hope to guide the club into the top four and at least secure qualification for the Champions League in what has been a difficult second year in charge at Old Trafford.
