Thierry Henry hands high praise to top Arsenal wonderkid

Arsenal teen Alex Iwobi became an overnight sensation for the club after scoring his first league goal in just his first start for the Gunners during a 2-0 win over Everton. Iwobi’s form and attitude have earned the respect of one of the most iconic players in club history: Thierry Henry.

Per the Metro, Henry has been quietly praising Iwobi to his fellow Sky Sports pundits for his attitude as much as his footballing talent. Jamie Redknapp quoted Henry complimenting Iwobi for his good behavior setting him apart from other strikers like him.

‘Thierry, who has worked with the 19-year-old, said the most impressive thing about this young man is his attitude. That’s what sets him apart,’ Redknapp said.

‘Iwobi plays with a smile on his face, he’s never late for training and he is a conscientious young man. You might expect that to be a given for any young footballer but sadly that’s not the case in the modern game.

‘That’s why he deserves everything he’s got this past week.

‘He’s got pace, he’s athletic and he looks a real prospect. You’d also have to say his performances have pushed him to the front of the queue ahead of a few more established stars.’

The 19-year-old Iwobi was promoted to the Arsenal first-team this year after spending the previous decade in the youth academy. He was capped for England’s Under- squads several times but was called up to play for his native Nigeria twice in 2015.

Iwobi’s success this past weekend has already triggered speculation that big European clubs will start making offers for him in the coming months.
