Manchester derby to be one of Pep Guardiola’s first fixtures as City manager

Pep Guardiola will experience a Manchester derby in one of his first games as Manchester City manager.

The local rivals will meet at the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing on July 25 as part of the pre-season International Champions Cup, according to BBC Sport.

Manchester United will also face the tough test of German giants Borussia Dortmund, in Shanghai three days prior to the derby, during their eight-day tour of China.

Guardiola is taking over from Manuel Pellegrini in the summer, having agreed a three-year contract at the Etihad Stadium for when he leaves Bayern Munich.

Shock Premier League leaders Leicester City have been invited to the worldwide pre-season tournament for the first time and will face heavyweight opponents.

Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes have games against Celtic in Glasgow on July 23, Paris Saint-Germain in Los Angeles on July 30 and Barcelona in Stockholm on August 3.

Guardiola’s maiden Premier League game as City boss will be on the weekend of August 13 later this year. What a story it would be if it was Manchester United again.
