Jose Mourinho signs Manchester United deal; Special One given full transfer control

Jose Mourinho has reportedly signed a contract to replace Louis van Gaal as Manchester United boss this summer, according to reports in Portugal.

The former Chelsea coach has long been linked with the post at Old Trafford as he continues to search for his next position since being sacked by the Blues last December.

While it has been suggested in the British media that Mourinho has remained confident about his chances of replacing Van Gaal despite the lack of movement, Journal de Noticias have now reported that he has put pen to paper on a deal.

The report goes on to suggest that the ‘Special One’ has been watching recent United matches with a view of identifying what he needs ahead of his first season in charge as he will be well prepared for the summer transfer market.

Importantly, it adds that the 53-year-old will be given full control over transfer dealings, thus opening up the door for him to significantly strengthen the squad this summer with his own players.

Given the level of scrutiny that Van Gaal has faced this year in particular, it would come as no surprise if the United hierarchy opt to make a change.

The Dutchman could still sign off the season in style if he is able to win the FA Cup and close the four-point gap that currently exists between themselves and fourth place in the Premier League.

However, if the latest speculation is to be believed, that it will all be irrelevant in terms of saving his job, as essentially United have still fallen short of expectations with their inability to compete for the league title as well as their early elimination in Europe.
