Video: Stoke City 1-1 Sunderland – Marko Arnautovic goal may seal relegation fate

Marko Arnautovic may have scored the goal that seals Sunderland’s relegation fate once and for all as the Stoke City ace scored his 11th goal of the season to potentially end any hopes of Sunderland avoiding the dreaded drop.

A lofted ball from Peter Crouch was all Arnautovic needed to get control of the ball in the box and take a crucial lead over the Black Cats at Britannia Stadium.

Sunderland managed to draw in the final moments thanks to a penalty kick for Jermain Defoe, and the final score was Stoke City 1-1 Sunderland.

However, though Sunderland managed to salvage a point, results elsewhere have damaged their hopes of staying up at the end of the season.

The Black Cats controlled their own destiny heading into today’s match after securing a stunning 0-0 draw with Arsenal last week. But with Newcastle United beating Crystal Palace as of writing, they will be entrenched in the bottom-three by the end of the weekend regardless of whether Norwich City get points against Arsenal later in the day.
