Earlier today when Manchester United threw away a lead to drop two points in a 1-1 draw with Leicester City, the Red Devils’ hopes of Champions League qualification seemed very slim.

They were four points behind fourth-placed local rivals City, with both teams having three games left to play.

Less than an hour later, City kicked off against Southampton at St Mary’s, where an away win would open up a seven point lead over United.

However, the first half has not gone to plan for Manuel Pellegrini’s men, who are 2-1 down at the break.

Southampton were in front with 25 minutes thanks to Shane Long’s 100th goal in English football.

Long beat Nicolas Otamendi to a Dusan Tadic cross to poke his side into a deserved lead.

The Saints doubled their lead three minutes later through Sadio Mane, before City struck back against the run of play courtesy of Kelechi Iheanacho.
