Video: Real Madrid 1-0 Man City – Gareth Bale goal brings La Liga giants to brink of Champions League Final

Posted by

Everything seems to click for Real Madrid when Ronaldo is on the field, only this time it was Ronaldo’s partner up front – striker Gareth Bale – who scored a Champions League goal of his own for a change.

Just a few minutes after Man City were dealt a huge blow by losing superstar defender Vincent Kompany to a leg injury, Bale capitalized on the loss of the Citizens’ captain, launching a rocket of a strike that was deflected into the top-left inside corner, from which goalkeeper Joe Hart had no chance to save.

The goal was Bale’s first in the Champions League since December 2014.

With a full half left to go in the game, Manchester City still have a slim chance of making a game out of this one.

If nothing else, Bale’s goal guaranteed at least that there will be no added time since a Real Madrid win or a Manchester City draw after full time would ensure a clear winner.

The winner of the game will face Atletico Madrid. Maybe they won’t be much of a ‘winner’ after all….

UPDATE: The goal was later changed to an own goal credited to Fernando, so Bale’s goalless streak in the Champions League continues.
