Yet another Chelsea player looks set to don one of the club’s patented protective face masks tonight!
Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has revealed that he will include teenagers Kasey Palmer and Tammy Abraham in his travelling squad for tonight’s Premier League encounter with Liverpool at Anfield.
Neither midfielder Palmer, 19, and forward Abraham, 18, have yet played for the Blues first-team, but both have big-game experience, having won the UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup this season.
Hiddink will be without captain John Terry, who is suspended, but winger Pedro is available despite picking up an injury
The Spaniard has a broken nose, which was not picked up at training.
Speaking to the chelseafc.com on Tuesday, Hiddink bantered that Pedro’s wife was not responsible for the 28-year-old’s cracked schnoz.
Hiddink said: “We take Kasey and we take Tammy.
“[Branislav] Ivanovic is out with a groin problem, [Diego] Costa with a hamstring problem is out. I think he will be out for the weekend too.
“Pedro is not out but has broken his nose, not in training but at home – I don’t know what happened! He had a little accident on his own. His wife was not involved, she was here and I asked her!
“He very unfortunately fell and broke his nose. He trained today.”
Chelsea have not lost at Anfield on their last four visits, but three of those games have ended as draws.
A point tonight will pretty much guarantee a top-10 finish for the Blues, while Liverpool can keep alive faint hopes of finishing above Manchester United by beating the men from Stamford Bridge.
