Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Aston Villa coupled with Tottenham’s 5-1 loss at Newcastle United on the final day of the season ensured that the Gunners finished above their north London rivals once again.
Arsene Wenger’s side moved up to second place with 71 points, while Spurs dropped to third with 70 as their wait to top their rivals goes on for another year.
Despite the disappointment of their campaign coupled with the on-going protests against Wenger, it was a stylish way to end the season for Arsenal on the pitch with Olivier Giroud bagging a hat-trick against already-relegated Villa.
Combined with Tottenham’s capitulation at St James’ Park, it was a memorable end to the season for all the right reasons for Arsenal, and supporters swiftly took to Twitter to share their joy.
However, they were also joined by two former stars, with Wojciech Szczesny, fresh from helping Roma to a third-placed finish in Serie A this season, joining in the fun, along with Lukas Podolski.
