Man City playmaker issues injury update; attacker offers praise for Barcelona counterpart

Manchester City playmaker David Silva has insisted that he is doing well and is confident about featuring for Spain in the first match of their European Championship campaign.

The attacking midfielder has already met up with La Roja’s selection ahead of their trip to France for this summer’s Euro 2016.

The 30-year-old maestro struggled with injury during the just-concluded 2015-16 Premier League season, managing just 22 starts for the Citizens and featuring from the bench on a further two occasions.

Nonetheless, Silva’s talent shone through, and he contributed 11 assists and scored two goals.

While high-profile players such as Diego Costa, Juan Mata and Fernando Torres were not called up by Vicente del Bosque, Silva has made the cut, a sign, perhaps, of his enduring class in the eyes of the manager.

In a boost for both del Bosque and Spain fans, Silva has insisted that he is confident he’ll be fit to feature for Spain from the off this summer.

“I’m fine,” he told Marca. “I hope to make the first match.

“I don’t know,” he added. “I’m feeling well.”

One of the players competing for a place with Silva will be his Barcelona counterpart Andres Iniesta.
