Barcelona stalwart urges Liverpool ace to move to La Liga giants

Outgoing Barcelona star Dani Alves has insisted that Philippe Coutinho should consider leaving Liverpool for the Catalan outfit.

The Brazilian international has established himself as a key player for the club since his arrival from Inter in 2013, scoring 12 goals and providing seven assists in 43 appearances in all competitions last season.

An exit from Liverpool would be a huge blow for the club and its supporters, but Alves believes that his compatriot is ready for the step up with Barcelona, even though he won’t be around to next season to possibly see him in a Blaugrana jersey after announcing his intention to move on this summer.

“Football is about living the moment,” Alves told Yahoo Esportes. “Liverpool have history but you should consider playing for top UCL sides. He has the quality to play for Barcelona.”

It remains to be seen whether or not Barca make their move this summer, which in turn would hand Coutinho a difficult decision to make over his future.

The 23-year-old will be seen as a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s exciting plans on Merseyside from next season onwards, and so he will have to choose between continuing his adventure with the Reds or pushing himself elsewhere.

Given that there has been no official bid or offer as of yet it’s perhaps pointless to question what Coutinho would do in that situation, but given his performances in recent seasons and his room for development, it’s arguably merely a matter of time before Liverpool will have to fend off legitimate interest.
