Liverpool outcast to return to pre-season training as exit continues to be delayed

Liverpool forward Mario Balotelli has yet to secure a move elsewhere this summer and will in turn report for pre-season training with Jurgen Klopp.

The Italian striker spent last season on loan at AC Milan where he failed to make the desired impact, thus resulting in the Serie A giants opting not to make his move permanent.

In turn, he is all set to return to Melwood on Saturday for the first day of pre-season having failed to find a new club, and he will continue training with the squad until a transfer is agreed upon.

Given the indications from Klopp thus far, it’s fair to say that Balotelli doesn’t figure in the German tactician’s plans moving forward.

In what promises to be a very busy summer for the Reds, they’ve already signed Sadio Mane, Loris Karius, Joel Matip and Marko Grujic, and are expected to remain active in the market in the coming weeks.

However, it isn’t just limited to incomings, with the likes of Kolo Toure and Martin Skrtel on their way out, and it would come as no surprise to see Balotelli join them in heading through the exit door.

After scoring just one Premier League goal the season before last, the 25-year-old has failed to take his latest opportunity in Italy and now really does face an uncertain future.

Having been given so many chances previously, it remains to be seen if another club opts to give him another, as having failed to repay the faith shown in him by Brendan Rodgers when signing him in 2014, it’s now simply a matter of allowing him to keep his fitness up while waiting for an offer to come in.
