Liverpool transfer news: Reds prepared to pay £25m to land top left-back target

Liverpool are reportedly willing to stump up as much as £25m to land Jonas Hector.

The Cologne defender has been one of the left-backs most heavily linked with a move to Anfield this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks for an upgrade on Alberto Moreno, according to the Metro.

The 26-year-old has put himself on the radar of some of Europe’s biggest clubs with his performances for club and country – he was Germany’s first-choice left-back in their run to the Euro 2016 semi-finals.

Bild claim that Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona are prepared to pay £15m for Hector, which seems to have panicked Liverpool into action as the Reds are understood to have £25m waiting in the wings.

Moreno’s unreliable defensive displays – most notable in the Europa League final, have forced Liverpool to search far and wide for a new left-back. Leicester City youngster Ben Chilwell has also been linked.

The Liverpool Echo reports that the Reds were not willing to pay £10m for Chilwell. If £25m is being set aside for a potential Hector bid, then it is clear to us who Klopp’s number-one target is.
