Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has helped a 10-year-old boy stricken with leukemia ahead of LA Galaxy’s game against Seattle.
Gerrard met with Charlie Fearns prior to Sunday’s game against the Seattle Sounders FC. The club raised $200,000 to send the child to receive treatment not available in the UK that could potentially be lifesaving according to the official LA Galaxy website.
The treatment Fearns is undergoing is called Car T-cell therapy which is available in Seattle and involved using the patients own immune system to fight cancer.
Per the source, the 10-year-old lifelong Liverpool FC fan and his brother Harrison met Gerrard who donated more that $33,000 to the child’s fund.
Gerrard presented the kids with an autographed shirt after the game and the brothers took a pregame match photo.
“Steven Gerrard and LA Galaxy went above and beyond for us. They were incredible,” Sophie Fearns, Charlie’s mother said. “Steven Gerrard has been such a great support throughout Charlie’s treatment and we are incredibly thankful”.
Gerrard joined LA Galaxy last summer after spending his entire career at the Reds. The former Liverpool star was part of the 2005 Champions League winning side in Istanbul.
