Everton are attempting to overtake Arsenal in the race to sign Julian Draxler from Wolfsburg according to the Sun.

The report states that the Toffees have emerged as shock rivals to Arsenal for the capture of the Germany international. The Sun go onto state that Everton boss Ronald Koeman is using his clubs improved financial position to sign Draxler this summer.

Following Farhad Moshiri’s investment in the club, the Merseyside club have signed both Maarten Stekelenburg and Idrissa Gueye.

Meanwhile the Bundesliga giants insist the 22-year-old is staying despite interest from the Premier League duo. Draxler does however have a £63million buy-out clause according to the Sun.

The Sun also state that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is unwilling to match the clause which could leave Everton in pole position in the race to sign Draxler.

Draxler provided eight assists and scored nine goals in 35 appearances for Wolfsburg in all competitions last season.
