Everton’s 12m transfer leads Wales to 4-0 victory

Everton’s summer signing Ashley Williams played at the heart of Wales’ defence during their 4-0 victory over Moldova in their first 2020 World Cup qualification game.

The experienced centre-back played 82 minutes as part of Wales’ three-man defence before being replaced by West Ham United’s James Collins.

Real Madrid’s superstar Gareth Bale netted a brace while Joe Allen and Sam Vokes added to the scoreline.

Wales have kept their positive run going following an impressive run in Euro 2016. Chris Colman’s side made it all the way to the semi-finals before being beaten by the eventual champions Portugal.

Williams joined Everton for £12 million on a two-year deal according to SkySports. The powerful defender replaced John Stones who left to join Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

The Wales international joined Swansea for £400,000 back in 2008 having spent five years at Stockport.

Everton take on Sunderland in the Premier League this weekend as they look to record their third win of the season.
