Mesut Ozil is at the peak of his powers at the moment, scoring goals for fun and pulling the strings for an Arsenal team who are in fine form. His performance against Chelsea at the weekend was excellent, with one turn in particular leaving N’Golo Kante in a spin at one end of the field, while Arsenal raced to the other end to score.
With Ozil in such top form, its no surprise that the Arsenal hierarchy are keen to tie him down to a longer term deal. What is more surprising are the terms that Ozil is apparently requesting to be inserted into his new deal.
The Metro, quoting sources in Germany, reveal that the German international will finally sign a new deal at some point in the next few months, after a year of stalemate that was set back even further by Euro 2016.
The paper also claim that as part of the deal, Ozil will be allowed to change his shirt number to his favoured number 10, now vacant with Jack Wilshere on loan at Bournemouth.
Arsenal fans should be delighted that Ozil looks set to stay, but wouldn’t they rather he had his mind on helping the team win more games rather than what the mostly meaningless number on his shirt says?
