Arsene Wenger provides huge fitness update on Arsenal ace who could return against Burnley and responds to England talk

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed the surprising news that midfielder Francis Coquelin could already be in line to make a comeback from injury against Burnley.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, the French tactician discussed his side’s fitness issues as they look to extend their eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

While confirming that striker Olivier Giroud is out, Wenger provided a welcome boost by suggesting that Coquelin could return from the knee injury that he sustained against Chelsea last weekend much sooner than many expected, as seen in the tweet below.

Coquelin was sidelined for two months last season with a knee injury, and after injuring the same knee, it was feared that he could be set for another lengthy spell in the treatment room.

However, it appears as though Wenger is much more optimistic about his chances of returning this weekend, but time will tell as to whether he gets back into the side or if Granit Xhaka and Santi Cazorla continue to give him additional time to recover.

Meanwhile, Wenger was also asked about speculation linking him with the vacant England post after Sam Allardyce left his position.

The veteran tactician remained rather coy on the matter in a humourous manner, but went on to reiterate his commitment to Arsenal and also suggested that a 25th anniversary at the club wouldn’t be completely out of the question as he celebrated 20 years last week.

Nevertheless, despite having been in the position for so long, Wenger will know better than most that results this season will be what counts for the club and supporters and will determine his future.
