“From the teams we have played there is no doubt it is the team I am most impressed with. If they continue like this they are number one on my list for winning the Premier League” – these were the words of Walter Mazzari, Watford manager, after yesterday’s game, which saw his side torn apart by a rampart Liverpool.
They aren’t the first to be demolished by the Reds in recent games, and they don’t look to be the last. Jurgen Klopp’s men look faster, fitter and more full of belief than any other side in the league. They’re unbeaten since August, and have seen off Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal in the league without defeat this year.
Despite all this, the bookmakers just don’t seem to be biting on this resurgent Reds team. Most still have Manchester City favourites to win, despite the Citizens only have picked up one win in five in the league. Clearly Pep Guardiola is being backed to turn things round at the City Ground.
There’s plenty of games left to be played in the season, but after 11 games of Liverpool playing like they are playing at the moment, it’s astonishing that they are still not the number one choice to win the league.
