Manchester United players are the highest paid in world football, report the Daily Mail.

The Daily Mail report that on average the United first-team players earn a staggering £5.77 million a year. That’s marginally ahead of second placed Barcelona, who earn an average of £5.65 million per year.

Surprisingly, the Daily Mail report that Crystal Palace are the twentieth best paid team in the world. This is a reflection of just how lucrative the Premier League’s TV deal is. Even the smaller teams in the division are able to financially compete with top sides across Europe.

Palace have Mathieu Flamini, Loic Remy, Steve Mandanda, Yohan Cabaye and Christian Benteke on their books. All of whom played for a top side before moving to Selhurst Park and thus you may assume that this is reflected in their wage packets.

United may have the highest wage bill in world football, but currently they’re not even one of the best teams in England. Jose Mourinho’s side sit in sixth place in the league table, eight points behind leaders Liverpool.
