Liverpool prepare £20m January move for heavily scouted striker with £60,000-a-week contract offer

Liverpool are reportedly ready to offer £20m to Celtic in January in an attempt to try and prise Moussa Dembele away from the club.

Jurgen Klopp will potentially be active in the January transfer window as he looks to sustain his side’s impressive start to the campaign and maintain their run at the Premier League title.

In order to do that, Glasgow Live report that the Reds boss is targeting Dembele in a £20m in the New Year, with £10m offered up front with the additional money made up of add-ons based on appearances and his contribution to the team.

Further, it’s claimed that the former Fulham striker will be offered a deal worth £60,000-a-week, which is a significant increase on what he earns at Parkhead currently, with his current contract said to be paying him around £15,000-a-week.

This is certainly not a random attempt at strengthening his squad from Klopp, as it’s added in the report that Liverpool have sent scouts to watch the 20-year-old on five separate occasions, and with 17 goals in 21 starts for the Scottish champions, it’s fair to say that Dembele has looked good.

Nevertheless, Celtic are said to be feeling confident about their chances of keeping the talented youngster, as per the report, albeit if only until the end of the season, and are likely to see a bidding war sparked given the on-going interest shown from the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

With Daniel Sturridge failing to stay fit and display his best form along with injuries to the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana and others, it’s no surprise that Klopp is considering bolstering his options in January.

The last thing the German tactician will want to see is his side fall away after putting themselves in such a strong position, and so it looks as though he’ll test the resolve of Celtic and former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

However, it remains to be seen whether it’s enough to convince them to sell and if Dembele is ready to return to England just six months on from making what is turning out to be a very successful move to Glasgow.
