Arsenal join race for £40m-rated striker, will battle PL rivals for 26-goal starlet

Arsenal have reportedly joined the race to sign Celtic striker Moussa Dembele, with a whole host of Premier League sides hoping to sign him this summer.

The 20-year-old has been in great form this season, scoring 26 goals and providing five assists in 40 appearances in all competitions for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

However, that form has alerted several top clubs south of the border, with The Mirror reporting that Arsenal are also now monitoring Dembele with a view of signing him at the end of the season.

Having signed him from Fulham last year for just £500,000, Celtic are in line to make a huge profit on the player, although naturally Rodgers will want to keep hold of him to spearhead their continued domestic success while also trying to make a splash in Europe next year.

It’s added in the report that in the event that they do sell, the Scottish champions have put a £40m+ price-tag on him, in large part to try and fend off interest.

Nevertheless, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City all said to be keen on signing Dembele, it remains to be seen whether it’s enough to put them off and so it certainly puts the Hoops in a strong position.

All three clubs could certainly do with attacking reinforcements in the shape of an out-and-out goalscorer, with Chelsea needing cover, or possibly a replacement, for Diego Costa, City are light in that department while Arsenal have been crying out for a prolific marksman for years.

In turn, it could potentially be a fascinating transfer battle between the trio this summer, provided that Celtic are willing to talk business.
